Workshop and Community Artwork for Refugee Week 2026
Daring to Fly represents the courageous journeys we all face in life whether they be emotional or physical, transformative or redemptive. I was commissioned as Art Facilitator and Artist for this project.
The people that took part in this community art project are representative of our multicultural, creative and welcoming city, coming from as far away as Ethiopia and Afghanistan and as close as the next street.
There were almost two dozen women involved in the creative process of making these birds, including participants, organisers and art facilitator. The Waterford Gallery of Art provided the safe space for creation and communication and the organisers, Bróna Walsh and Gabriela Burnett of Buíon Phort Láirge and Jane Fraher of the Women’s Shed, made sure everyone was comfortable and welcome for the day’s creative work.
